Paul knew that his case is not going to be killed by Caesar but he is going to be poured out on the altar as a drink-offering. Paul's intention is he is going to give his life as a sacrifice to Jesus Christ. He has been a living sacrifice, serving Him since the day he was saved, and now is to complete that sacrifice by laying down his life for Him. Paul looked on death as a release from the world, an opportunity to "set sail" into eternity. Paul compared the death of believers to the taking down of a tent (tabernacle), in order to receive a permanent, glorified body ("house not made with hands"), 2 Timothy 4:6-8.
